Rhys Wilson and I had long harboured the idea of revisiting some of my early songs live – just me with a guitar or piano – to reflect better how I play them now. During the Covid lockdowns a genuinely live album became impossible – but this album is the closest we could get, recording everything in a single take. And in the end we could record a couple of the tracks live at the Cambridge Folk Club: The last bus to Leeds, and an additional version of the Woodstock rest home.
