Thesalonika is about Zoe Kaltaki, a remarkable Greek woman who fought the Nazis in her native Greece from a remarkably early age and then fought for the communists against the Greek army, before fleeing to exile in Czechoslovakia. When she finally returned home she was asked whether she felt more at home in Greece or in Czechoslovakia and she replied, rather ambiguously, 'I feel at home where I can be myself'. Her story somehow sums up the turbulent twentieth century. There is more about the song at johnmeed.net/thesalonika/
